Re: The Decline of Fashion Photography
Sat, April 17, 2004 - 12:56 PMVery interesting.
My though is that art and commerce are the same in that they are both trying to create some feeling. In the case of commercial work - you want to move people to associate wanting to buy a product with your photograph.
As a photographer and a business person I don't get a lot of what I see in fashion photography these days. Even 10 years ago I like a lot more of the photography I saw in fashion magazines. -

Re: The Decline of Fashion Photography
Sun, April 18, 2004 - 6:34 AMDo you ever find yourself losing your artisticness in terms of fashion work? For me it starts to go slowly - I don't even notice it til I look at my work and go "oh my god this is so f-ing bland!". Then I have to do a few "artistic, just for me" sets to get it back. It's hard to keep the creative juices flowing with fashion sometimes. When I *can* have reign over how much creativity is used it's hard to find a balance. -

Re: The Decline of Fashion Photography
Mon, April 19, 2004 - 5:56 AMI do a lot of model portfolios for commercial / editorial models. They actually need most of their shots to be bland because they need to reflect the work they're going for.
However - I am doing my own work, and I try to inject "art" into my portraiture.
I just did a shoot for my own book with a model in black PVC holding a machine gun. Nothing bland. -
